A classic survival story involving a Swiss pastor and his family, "Swiss Family Robinson" is a tale of a family shipwrecked with nothing but the ship's supplies and each other on a desert isle. Through hard work and knowledge of the natural world, they are able to not just survive, but thrive on the island. Though written 200 years ago, "Swiss Family Robinson" is a fast-paced action book-faster than other works of the time such "Last of the Mohicans" or "Robinson Crusoe". Each chapter provides the opportunity for the family to discover some novel animal, or some amazingly versatile plant, or make some new invention. There are also references to God's providence, and prayer, and moral virtues. A wonderful book for young people, and anyone who loves a good read.
Biographie de l'auteur :
Johann David Wyss (1743-1818) is best remembered for his book The Swiss Family Robinson. It is said that he was inspired by Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, but wanted to write a story from which his own children would learn, as the father in the story taught important lessons to his children. The Swiss Family Robinson was first published in 1812 and translated into English two years later. It has since become one of the most popular books of all time. The book was edited by his son, Johann Rudolf Wyss, a scholar who wrote the Swiss national anthem. Another son, Johann Emmanuel Wyss, illustrated the book.

It was written by a Swiss pastor who was inspired by Robinson Crusoe, but was trying to write something that his children could learn from. One of his sons edited the book and another illustrated the book. He also wrote The Castaways of the Flag with Jules Verne. Its a book about a family who got shipwrecked on an island and had to survive for over ten years apart from civilization. They gathered animals and tamed them and domesticated them. They domesticated an ostrich, a coyote, and eagle, a monkey and many other wild animals. The family consisted of three boys, a mom and a dad. And then, near the end, they found someone else living on the island from a previous shipwreck, which was a girl. Then at the end, a ship that was coming for the girl found the island and saved them. They put the place on the map, so that the next time someone was lost on that island, they would know that the island was there.
